It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce our dad, Roy, left us sooner than we ever would have wanted.
Dad always said the most important thing in life was to create memories. He knew his time here might be limited because of his heart, so he lived intentionally and he did exactly what he said he would do. He made memories everywhere he went and with every person he met.
He had inside jokes with everyone. He gave nicknames freely and no one was allowed to go by their real name around Dad. He was a jokester, a teaser, and the kind of man who made you feel instantly loved. Every time he walked out the door, he built relationships. Loving people was not just something he did, it was who he was.
His greatest love and passion on this earth were his wife, Bethy, his daughters, his beloved son in law, and his grandchildren. He adored them beyond measure. He also deeply loved his siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. If you knew Roy, you knew you mattered to him.
You often wonder how one person can give that much love so consistently, but that was Dad. He cherished relationships. When his parents were here, he treated them like gold. He often spoke about being reunited with his mom, his brother, and his father, and we find comfort in knowing that reunion has now taken place.
He was an avid sports lover who enjoyed just about every sport imaginable. His heart belonged to America’s Team, the Dallas Cowboys. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports and could watch westerns on repeat without ever getting tired of them.
He loved being spoiled by his girls and required plenty of attention, attention we were always happy to give because he spoiled us right back.
Roy leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, deep love, and unforgettable memories. The world feels quieter without him, but heaven is surely louder.
As we say goodbye, we hold tightly to the promise of Scripture and the words we believe he heard as he entered eternity:
“Well done, good and faithful servant… Come and share your master’s happiness.”
Matthew 25:21
He will be missed beyond words and loved forever.
