Rachel Perry

Rachel Lynn Perry, 52, of Humble, Texas was welcomed home by her Savior on December 7, 2023. Her final hours were peaceful and filled with love as she was surrounded by her family.

Rachel was born on September 18, 1971 to parents Charles Eugene and Thelma Joyace Hawthorne. In 1978 the Hawthorne family moved to Manvel. Rachel graduated from Alvin high school with the class of 1990. She became a mother in 1995 to Chance and Cheyenne and in 1997 graduated nursing school. Her desire to serve others was evident throughout the 24 years she worked as a nurse serving multiple hospitals and surgery centers in Houston and the surrounding areas. In 1999 Rachel married the love of her life, James, and after the birth of Allison in 2000 moved to Spring, Texas in 2002.

After becoming involved at Humble First Assembly of God, the Perry family moved to Atascocita in 2007.  Lillie Perry’s arrival in 2011 was one of Rachel’s greatest joys. Rachel’s love for the Lord and His people was consistently on display in the workplace and at home. She led the Women's Ministry at the church for 10 years. Countless young ladies have had the privilege of having “Mrs. Rachel” mentor them through the 14 years she taught in the Missionettes (Girls Ministry) program there. Every Wednesday night she cooked countless meals at Humble First in “Rachel’s Kitchen” for her church family.

Rachel, or ReRe as many call her, loved people so well; her joy and vibrant smile filled every room she entered. Rachel loved to be surrounded by “her people”; she loved to celebrate people and would always find ways to show how much they meant to her. One of her favorite ways to show love was to cook a meal and have as many people as she could fit around her spacious dining table. On multiple occasions, family members and friends lived in her home; this included Grandma Mary (James’ mother) for 18 years. She was spontaneous and adventurous, always looking forward to her next camping trip with Thelma (her camper trailer). She also enjoyed little things like cuddling up in bed and watching a Christmas Hallmark movie or eating a piece of cookie cake with extra icing!

While Rachel loved being surrounded by people, you could often find her alone on her back porch where she would spend time with Jesus. “Jesus is my best friend” is something that Rachel would say quite often and rarely went a day without talking about Him. Her bold love for the Lord could be seen in every facet of her life regardless of location, people, groups, or circumstances. While battling cancer, Rachel always chose to praise Jesus and declare His goodness. Her lifelong mission was to tell every person she came in contact with about Jesus as long as she had breath in her lungs. Her faith in Jesus never wavered and in her final days she looked forward to worshiping Him for eternity. Today she would want you to know that giving her heart to Jesus, and allowing Him to use her, was the best gift she has ever received and the greatest gift she could offer you in return.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Eugene Hawhorne and Thelma Joyace Hawthorne, her mother and father-in-love Mary Perry and Larry Perry, former father-in-love Jerry Everritt and her sister Renae Entrekin.

She is survived by her husband James Perry of 24 years, children Chance Perry and wife Audrey, daughter Cheyenne Gabbard and husband Ryan, daughter Allison Perry, daughter Lillie Perry and grandchildren Ryan Curtis Jr, Nathaniel James and Emma Rose Gabbard and granddog Hazel, former mother-in-love Charlene Everitt, sisters Jennifer Morris and husband Terry, Rebecca Tibbitts and husband Scott, brothers Robert “Lee” Hawthorne and wife Donna, Brad Hawthorne and wife Kimberly, as well as best friends Edgar and Stephanie Ayala and numerous nieces and nephews. Her friends and extended family will cherish the joy she brought with her wherever she went.
