Melvin Starr Umphenour Jr.

Melvin Starr Umphenour Jr., 72, was born on August 3, 1949, in Houston, Texas. He passed away on Thursday April 14, 2022, in his home in Willis, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents Melvin Starr Umphenour Sr. & Elsie Martin Umphenour, his brother Dennis Umphenour, Sr., and his brother-in-law (Rick) Richard Elliot.

Melvin is survived by his son David Umphenour. Daughter Michelle Puig & husband Roberto. Former spouse Cheryl Robertson of 30 years of marriage. Brothers Virgil Umphenour & spouse Micky, and Edward Umphenour & spouse Paulette. Sister Mary Ann Elliot. Grandchildren Amelia Umphenour, Pilar Puig, and Ziggy Puig. As well as longtime friend of the family, Ed Bella. Melvin met his wife to be, Cheryl, while attending M.B. Smiley High School, and once graduated, they were engaged and married.  Their marriage lasted 30 years, and was blessed with two children, and three grandchildren. They brought him so much joy and happiness. He loved to celebrate with great food, drink, and music.  He was a master in the kitchen. His prime rib, gumbo, beans, and seafood boils will be greatly missed.  He loved Motown, disco, funk, but consistently listened to country music-classic, and new. He was rarely seen without his cowboy hat, boots, and perfectly starched Wranglers. Melvin will be remembered for the unique aspects of his personality, his flair for debate, and spirited path through life.  Melvin will be desperately missed by all those who loved him. Our hearts are so broken by this unexpected loss.
