In Loving Memory of Kenny Troost
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
Kenneth Dale Troost Jr. was born on September 24, 1971, and earned his eternal reward with Jesus on February 4, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. While our hearts are heavy with grief, we are comforted by the knowledge that he is with Jesus and heard the words he lived his life for: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Affectionately known as Kenny to all who loved him, he was the oldest of four kids born to Kenneth, Sr., and Edna Troost. Growing up, Kenny was curious, a dreamer, and loved music. He was a talented musician, always singing and playing the guitar and piano, expressing a passion that stayed with him his entire life. In high school, he played the baritone horn and also earned numerous UIL competition medals for solo and ensemble with the choir. Kenny graduated from New Caney High School in 1991 and entered the restaurant industry. This led him to his greatest blessing: meeting the love of his life, Shanna Stolorski, in 1996. United in marriage on May 18, 1998, they built a life anchored in steadfast love, unwavering faith, prayer, and a profound devotion to God and family. For 30 years, Kenny protected and cherished Shanna with a selfless, sacrificial love. Whether he was bringing her morning coffee, leaving hidden love notes, or serenading her with original songs, his life’s mission was to ensure she felt adored. Theirs was a rare and beautiful union-truly a match made in Heaven.
Together they had two boys: Shann Alexander (Alex) and Kendale (Aiden). Kenny adored Alex and Aiden and cherished his front row-seat in their lives as they grew. He poured himself into being their father and was a constant, steady presence at every event and milestone-from the biggest games to the smallest, quiet moments. When he wasn’t coaching the boys’ teams, Kenny was cheering them on from the sidelines and volunteering to show his unwavering support. Kenny guided his sons with love, encouragement, and quiet strength. The depth of his pride in Alex and Aiden, and the joy he felt in the men they were becoming, was evident to everyone who knew him. Shanna and the boys were the absolute joy of Kenny’s life.
The passion and dedication Kenny had for his family he also brought to his education and work life. Kenny earned his Bachelor of Political Science and Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Sam Houston State University. After a few years of working full time in restaurant management, Kenny opened his own restaurant with his dad called Firehouse Grill. He went on to teach and coach girls’ basketball, cross country, and golf at Cleveland High School. He had the privilege of leading his basketball team to the state championship in 2005. After his years in education, Kenny felt led to a different calling and joined the Houston Police Department in 2006. He selflessly served the citizens of Houston and Kingwood as a patrol officer, a TAC team officer, an instructor at the police academy, and later as a specialized DWI Task Force officer. Kenny’s dedication and hard work earned him multiple Life Saving Awards and the department’s prestigious Officer of the Year award in 2012. Following 10 years of dedicated service to the City of Houston, Kenny decided to go back to school for a law degree. As a law student, Kenny was competitively selected to work with the Innocence Project, and he also earned the Clara Barton Angel of the Battlefield Spirit Award at the International Humanitarian Law Competition in Washington D.C. He graduated from South Texas College of Law in May 2019 with his Doctor of Jurisprudence. Kenny became an ASC-CHAL Forensic Lawyer-Scientist in October 2019. During and after law school, Kenny worked at Evans & Powell before founding the Troost Law Firm in 2020. Kenny avidly devoted his legal career to criminal defense work and helping those in need, at which he was excellent.
Above all, Kenny’s greatest calling was loving people, living a life of service to others and pointing them to Jesus. He became a Christian in high school and made it his mission to fulfill God’s purpose in life. He had a remarkable way of lifting spirits, making others laugh, and reminding us all what truly matters by loving others in a Godly manner. In his presence you could not help but feel overcome by his infectious smile, his booming laugh, and the effortless way he made you feel seen and welcomed – no matter who you were. Put simply, Kenny was a gift. A steady presence. A man whose faith in God was not just something he spoke about but something he lived out loud daily through love, generosity, laughter, compassion, and devotion. To know Kenny was to love him. To love Kenny is to miss him tremendously.
Though we ache in his absence, we choose to remember Kenny not for how his life ended but for how beautifully and selflessly it was lived. We grieve with hope, because we know we will see Kenny again. Until then, Kenny’s legacy will forever live on through his children, the lives he touched, and the love he so freely gave.
Kenny is survived by his loving wife, Shanna, and their sons, Alex and Aiden; his parents, Kenneth, Sr., and Edna; his siblings: Kevin Troost; Kim Meaux (Chuck); and Kurtis Troost (Jasmyn); 6 nieces; 5 nephews; and a host of extended family members and friends who loved him deeply.
A celebration of Kenny’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2025, at United City Church, located at 19901 Townsen Boulevard, in Humble, Texas 77338.
