E/8-SCPO Mineman Senior Chief Johnny Lee Shelton, Retired
Of LaPorte, Tx passed away comfortably on Monday April 4 at Baytown Methodist Hospital. He was born January 4, 1964 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to James Thomas and Martha Ellen Shelton and welcomed by his big sister Melody. Shortly after his birth we moved to El Campo, TX for a few years. Then to Cameron, Louisiana where at only 3 years old, he learned to build and throw crab pots with dad and peel potatoes and shuck oysters at the local cafe where mom worked. We then moved to Splendora,TX where we lived until he enlisted at the age of 17. He entered the United States Navy where he proudly served 23+ years before retiring. Throughout his service he climbed the ranks to become E8/SCPO Mineman Senior Chief. He took his service to our country very seriously and was always service minded and prioritized his career with pride and gratitude. Even after retirement, he studied to become an employee with Homeland Security but his health started failing him.
Johnny is preceded in death by his father James Thomas Shelton, mother Martha Ellen Lantz Shelton, brothers James David Shelton, Brandon Riley Beauchamp, grand-daughter Braylyn Rose Shelton as well as numerous other loved ones including Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends.
Johnny is survived by his son, James Thomas Shelton of Atascocita, TX, daughter Jessica Dawn Kapperman and husband Jason of Nixa, MO and grandchildren Dillon Joy Kapperman, James Thomas Shelton III, Bryar AnnaGale Shelton. Also survived by James David’s wife Kathleen, Samuel Wayne Shelton, both of Port Orchard, WA., sisters Melody Johnson of Splendora, Ellen Wilson and husband, Nolan of New Caney, His niece Caitlyn Beauchamp of Porter and nephews James Allan Shelton of Port Orchard, WA, Cooper Johnson and wife Tabitha of Cleveland, Guthrey Johnson and wife Kayla of New Caney, Shelton and Devin Wilson of New Caney, Austin Beauchamp of Conroe and his good friends and neighbors Robert and Lupita Silva and their sons Ricky and David who went above and beyond to help care for Johnny and several other loving neighbors and many Service Personnel who served with him.
Johnny you are and will always be missed and loved! We’ll take it from here Sailor!
