Jesse Ryan Reyes

October 16, 1932 — September 23, 2025

Trinity

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a long life well-lived, we announce the passing of our beloved Jesse Ryan Reyes, affectionately known as “Popo” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jesse departed this world peacefully on September 23, 2025, at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering faith.

Born on October 16, 1932 in Richmond, Texas, Jesse grew up with a deep appreciation for hard work. He was a proud farmer in his early years, often sharing stories of picking cotton — sometimes laughing about how prickly it could be, but always speaking with pride about the life it gave him. He took great joy tending to the animals on his land — chickens, roosters, goats, bulls, and cows to name a few — caring for them with the same devotion he gave to his family. That pride in his roots never faded and shaped the man he became.

Jesse was a man of deep Christian faith who lived every day with purpose and heart. A quiet force, Jesse never sought the spotlight, yet his presence filled every room with warmth and dignity. He was the strongest, toughest man we’ve ever known — a fighter who never complained, a survivor who thrived, and a soul who gave endlessly without asking for anything in return.

He was proud but modest, known for his impeccable appearance — his hair always perfectly styled, his pants crisply starched with a sharp crease, and his best boots and cowboy hat reserved for special occasions. He carried himself with integrity, not arrogance, and taught his children the value of hard work and respect.

A master cement finisher by trade, Jesse’s hands helped shape the skyline of Downtown Houston and beyond. His pours were legendary — precise, fast, and flawless. His craftsmanship lives on in structures that will stand for decades, a testament to his perfectionism and strict work ethic.

Jesse also loved the simple joys of life — fishing, cooking, and sharing a game of dominoes with his family. Those games were filled with laughter, friendly rivalry, and sometimes a little heat — The Reyes family can get a tad bit competitive, but it was all in good fun. He was known for his delicious huevos rancheros, freshly caught fried fish, and menudo — meals made with love that filled countless bellies sitting around the table until the wee hours of the night. He believed that “when we are together, we are stronger,” and he encouraged unity and kindness among all.

He was a family favorite — the sweet brother, the genuine Tio, the precious cousin, and the enduring father and grandfather who made everyone feel like they were the most important person in the world. His infectious smile, his warm eyes, his impactful embraces and his gentle spirit will be missed more than words can express.

In addition to his parents, Isidoro and Elnora Reyes, Jesse is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rachel, who passed in 2006. He is survived by a loving and expansive family, including sons: Jesse Reyes, Jr, Adolph Reyes and wife Lorna, Johnny Reyes and wife Debbie, Jason Reyes and wife Rosie, Rick Herrera, Ruben Herrera, Gilbert Herrera, Joey Herrera, and daughters Jacquelyn Reyes Anglin and Jessica Reyes. His legacy includes 27 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by many siblings, with surviving sibling including Phillip Floriano, Nicholas Reyes, Delores Reyes Garza, Josephine Mendez and Estella Duty.

We will miss his cooking, his stories, his quiet wisdom, and the way he lit up when any of us entered the room. But most of all, we will miss the way he made us feel — safe, loved, and truly seen. Jesse, Dad, Popo – your love built this family. Your strength carried us; your legacy will live on forever. We love you endlessly.
