Jerry Eugene Smith was born January 22nd, 1941, in Searcy, Arkansas and gained his wings May 1st, 2025, in Porter, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Carl & Edith Alene Smith; daughter, Terri Smith Stetson; and his brother, Carl Wayne Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Lemeley Smith; daughter, Sherri Stanley & son-in-law, Clint Quarles; grandson Mitch Kinard; granddaughter Jessica Smith Hammons & son-in-law Josh Hammons; granddaughter Kilee Smith Shaikh and son-in-law, Irfan Shaikh; great-grandsons, Landon, Waylon, Dean, and Jackson Eugene; great-granddaughters, Victoria, Kennedy, and Cortlee.
Jerry married Carolyn in February of 1961 and from there started their wonderful life together. On May 29th, 1962, they welcomed their first daughter, Terri, and on July 17, 1964, a few years later, another daughter, Sherri, was born to brighten their lives even more. When it came to being a dad, Jerry can be described as dependable, caring, and fun.
Although Jerry was a homebody, he still enjoyed spending time with his family. It didn’t matter if it was for a special occasion or a random weekend. He would sit in his recliner or chair outside enjoying the company of his loved ones, drinking a cold one, and watching his grandchildren play. Jerry wasn’t always one to show his sensitive side, but you’d see it come out the minute a grandbaby came over to him.
Jerry was stubborn, hardworking, and a jack of all trades. He enjoyed westerns, John Wayne, and good, classic country music. You could always catch him eating a bowl of Blue Bell ice cream, tomato slices with a sprinkle of salt, or peanut m&m’s. He never hesitated to help his family, rather it was fixing a leaky sink or putting $20 in their pocket to help with finances. Jerry was the man you knew you could count on in hard times.
Jerry lived a life full of fun, love, family, and friends. 84 years is a long time but still not long enough, as his family wished they could have kept him forever. We are crying down here because the loss of losing the one you love is never easy but there is comfort in knowing he was immediately greeted by his daughter, Terri, who he has missed for many years now. Jerry lived a life that should be celebrated and that’s what we are here to do today. Remember the great Jerry Eugene Smith and carry him with you always. Until we see you again…we will see you later.
