Jacob Henry Welter

Oct 10, 2005 — Oct 10, 2026

Porter, Texas

Jacob Henry Welter, 21, of Porter, TX, passed away peacefully on his 21st birthday, October 10, 2026, at Heart-to-Heart Hospice, surrounded by his loving family after a 7 month long, courageous and hard-fought battle with rare, aggressive form of acute myeloid leukemia.

Born on October 10, 2005, in Humble, Texas to Jason and Lisa Welter, Jacob grew up with a bright smile, a quick wit, and a heart full of curiosity. When he wasn’t building Lego car sets, he was teaching himself BMX bike tricks, to his father’s delight. In his younger years he loved his trampoline and very quickly moved on to no-handed backflips on the ground. He never actually learned how to sit still, even for a second.

Jacob, as a teen and young adult, had a deep passion for remote controlled cars, four-wheel drive trucks and gaming with his buddies. He could always be found making anyone laugh with his ‘Jake-isms’, tinkering with the LED lights inside or outside his truck, or spending time with his close friends taking sunset pictures of his beloved Ford F150.

Even through the hardest days of his treatment, his resilience, humor, and kindness never wavered. He faced his cancer with a bravery that inspired everyone who knew and cared for him. He kept his nurses and doctors on their toes with his Connect Four gaming skills and endless Lego sets that quickly filled the windowsill in his room. He inspired us all so much to fight through the hard things and to just breathe deep, especially when it hurt.

He taught us all how to truly lean on Jesus and trust Him in all areas of our lives. He struggled throughout his journey to be as independent and strong as he could, as he never wanted to ‘be a burden’, as he stated. But it was the absolute, most precious blessing of our lives to stand by him, through every hurdle he faced.

He and his countless friends had their ups and downs through the years, but somehow always managed to find their way back to each other. His friends and family meant the world to him. He would stand up for anyone who couldn’t stand up for themselves and was the definition of a true hero.

Every time we see a truck with under glow, hear a loud muffler, see a kid flying through the air on a bicycle or see a beautiful sunset, we will feel him. His spirit will always surround us, and his memory will never fade.

Jacob is survived by his parents, Jason and Lisa Welter, his beautiful sister Brina and her amazing husband, Tyler McNutt, grandparents Buddy and Carol Welter, great-grandmother June Saba and countless aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Beulah Romere, and Tina Reese; great-grandparents Frank and Cecelia Welter, Royce and Archie Roberts, Mark Saba, uncle Marty Romere and cousin Lindy Ann Huesers.

Romans 8:18 was Jacob’s favorite Bible verse: “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” No other verse describes the peace of knowing he has now received the gifts God has had planned for him, all along.
