Hector Joe Velasquez

August 18, 1950 — August 30, 2025

New Caney, Texas

Hector Joe Velasquez, 75, of New Caney, TX, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

Hector “Hec” Velasquez was born on August 18, 1950 in New York, NY to Enrique Velasquez and Hermitania Ortiz. After Hec graduated high school, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a part of the 1st Cavalry division. After Vietnam, he began his career in the logistics industry for over 35 years. He met his wife and lifelong dance partner, Lynda Velasquez, in 1995. In their younger days, you could find Hec and Lynda on the dance floor, country and western dancing. You knew they were soulmates the second they stepped onto the dance floor, perfectly in sync with one another. If you knew Hec, you know the man couldn’t sit still. He never let the grass grow under his feet, both literally and figuratively. Yard Work was his specialty. Whether it was his yard or a neighbor's yard, he always enjoyed cutting grass. Other things that kept Hec busy include sitting on his patio listening to music, building the best bonfires, washing and waxing their cars, rearranging furniture, watering his plants and tending to his roses, woodworking in his garage until all hours of the night, going to the deer lease with his brother, cutting down trees with his chainsaw, camping and RVing, and last but certainly not least, fishing. Some of his best days were spent with his fishing pole on the water. Hec’s love and sense of humor will be missed by all.

Hector is preceded by his parents Enrique Velasquez and Hermitania Ortiz, Laura Gonzales, brothers Tito and Leo Velasquez. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lynda Velasquez, son and daughter Jason Velasquez and Amy White, stepson Joe King, brother Robert Gonzales, sister Lydia D. Mayfield, and grandchildren Kailey Velasquez, Joseph King, and Harper Cherry.
