Frederick George Remstedt

Frederick George Remstedt (90) was born January 20 1935, in Willits, California and passed away November 2, 2025, in Houston, Texas. He is preceded by his wife Billie Lou Remstedt of 35 years of marriage and his parents George & Maxine Remstedt.

Frederick is survived by his only daughter Sherry Brecheen, five brothers Walter, Dean, Ted, Ralph, Click, four sisters Betty, Barbara, Mary Ann, Charlotte, four grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.

Travel was in his blood—it ran deep. His ancestors once crossed the Donner Pass heading west to the Pacific, so maybe that adventurous spirit was just part of who he was. The first time he saw an airplane as a kid on the Perry Ranch, he was hooked. When getting a pilot’s license didn’t work out, he figured, “Why not work on them instead?” So, he joined the Navy and proudly served his country for 22 years visiting most counties, including Vietnam. Naples, Italy was his favorite destination. Employment at Exxon Chemical would occupy the next season of his life. He learned to operate heavy machinery and transport resin products from the Baton Rouge plant via railcar to around the world. His wife, and love of his life for 35 years, had dinner on the table when he came home.

After his career days were passed, he was always ready to help wherever he could, whether it was with the volunteer fire department, the Cajun Navy, or the Prime-Timers at church. He loved horses and could spin stories for hours about bronc riding, fishing trips, or just cruising the back roads from Northern California to Nevada rounding up wild mustangs with the cowboys.

Building a home on seven acres gave him a real sense of pride and belonging. He loved the food down in south Louisiana and treasured his time at the fish camp—even if free time was hard to come by. Family meant the world to him. He might not have always shown it in the usual ways, but there’s no question he loved every one of us.

A Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, December 27th at First Baptist Church, Slaughter, La. (Time is TBA when it’s closer to the date.)

Interment at Feliciana Rest Cemetery on Hokaday Road following with the military honor guard presenting.
