David Matthew McSween

November 11, 1966 — February 6, 2023

David Matthew McSween was born on November 11, 1966 in Huntsville, Alabama and passed away on February 6, 2023 in Montgomery, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents Andrew McSween and Ann Jones.

David was a rare breed of person that could generate a genuine sense of love in every encounter he had no matter how brief. His carefree demeanor was infectiously optimistic and was guaranteed to make you smile. He was a stranger to no one but an anomaly to all. His stories were bizarre and hilarious no matter how many times you’d heard them, and just when you thought you knew them all, he’d unearth some new tale that would leave you laughing. Nobody knew how to have a better time than David and he brought the party everywhere he went. It was impossible to not be having a good time being with him.

David had a lifelong fascination with space, loved music and being near the water. He loved nothing more than his daughter Cassidy who was the center of his life from the time she was born. They did everything together from endless concerts to James Bond marathons or just sitting around drinking beer talking while listening to Van Halen. He was her “Podge” and she was his “Monkey”. They were best friends.

Though the last years of his life were a battle, he would tell you they were among his best. He met Karen Vineyard on October 6th, 2021 and it was love right away. It didn’t take long till they were married and beginning a life together. Though the time wasn’t what it should have been, many memories were made and lots of love was shared. She took care of him through the worst of his illness and we are all very grateful to her.

David loved his family deeply and was the reliable constant for all of us. Always there to listen and make it better however he could. It is impossible to overstate how much we will miss him but with a personality larger than Texas he can never truly leave us. His giant heart serves as a guiding light for how we should all strive to be in this world.

He is survived by his loving wife Karen, his daughter Cassidy & (almost) son in law Reid Edgmon, step son Ian Simpson and a huge loving family.
