Betty Louise Melonson Thibodeaux was born the daughter of Floyd Melonson and Christine Gagne Melonson on December 1, 1942, and went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 28, 2020. She was raised in a little house in Raywood, Texas where her parents made a happy home for her and her brothers. At the age of 17, she married John Daniel Thibodeaux on October 8, 1960 and eventually gave birth to six children. Betty’s children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews were her lifelong project! She was always looking after children, and even when her memory began to fail, her constant concern was always, “For the kids.”

Betty became a very strong organizer and served as Operations Manager in many of their business ventures including auto repair, drag strip, garbage business, and finally welding and fabrication. Some say she was the prettiest girl in Raywood, and through the years, her daughter Amy always kept her hair looking fabulous. She was very clever and loved learning about what was going on in the world; she loved listening to talk radio, she was always very interested in current events, history, and politics.

Like her mother, she was good at home cooking and could make a meal in no time out of just a few ingredients. She was sensible and liked things properly kept; sometimes she cleaned house and rearranged the furniture long after the kids had gone to bed. Like her mother and grandmothers, she had a practical approach to life, looking after everyone and everything around her. None of us kids were allowed to run wild on her watch! She loved music, especially zydeco and the blues, she played a little on the keyboard, and found joy in life through family and music.

Betty is lovingly remembered by her children, Ivana T. Meshell and husband, James; Ivan Thibodeaux and wife Toni; Gregory Thibodeaux and his former wife, Myra Hunt Thibodeaux; Eric Thibodeaux and wife Shanie; Amy Thibodeaux Clemons and husband Keith; Grandchildren Cara Thibodeaux, Jessica Thibodeaux, Gregory Thibodeaux, Jr., Trinity Thibodeaux, and Lege Thibodeaux, her brothers and their wives Donald Melonson and Nona, Wayne Melonson and Berta, Carl Melonson and B.B, Patrick Melonson and Cynthia; many nieces, nephews and extended family, including Ronnie & Sheila Daniels and family, along with many friends, neighbors, and caregivers who have each been a special part of Betty’s life.

She is preceded in death by the father of her children, John Daniel Thibodeaux, her infant daughter Gretchen, her parents, Floyd and Christine Melonson, and her brother Charles whom she adored. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
